Over the course of two intensive weeks, participants immersed themselves in a dynamic learning environment dedicated to digitalization, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and digital twins. The program combined cutting-edge software training, advanced hardware fieldwork, and continuous teamwork to bridge theoretical concepts with practical applications. Through active collaboration, attendees successfully navigated every stage of the modern digital workflow, turning shared challenges into valuable professional growth and lasting international connections.

Introduction & Team Alignment

The workshop started with introductory sessions to set the goals for the week. Participants were introduced to collaborative platforms like Plannerly and Dalux, as well as the scanning equipment used during the project. We outlined the main project objectives, formed the teams, and defined the key workflow roles: Appointing Party, Lead Appointing Party, and Appointed Party. This initial setup ensured a clear and structured workflow for all upcoming activities.

Field Trip and Data Collection

Participants traveled to Abruzzo, a historic town near Pescara, to scan several cultural heritage buildings. We used various professional devices for data collection, including terrestrial laser scanning, a SLAM system, a drone, and a Matterport scanner. Following the technical scanning activities, everyone enjoyed a short guided tour of the local area to discover its cultural background and history.

Data Processing and Unreal Engine

The schedule included processing the collected scan data using CloudCompare to create and simplify point clouds for the projects. Additionally, participants attended a brief introductory session on Unreal Engine, learning basic applications and how this tool can be useful for 3D visualization. These activities helped connect raw field data with advanced digital modeling concepts in a clear and practical way.

Team building, Team work, Networking and some Sports

Saturday morning and early afternoon were dedicated to individual team work, allowing participants to advance their projects. Afterwards, the rest of the weekend was focused on relaxation, team bonding, and enjoying the beach together. Everyone had a great time socializing and sharing wonderful experiences outside the formal workshop schedule. These moments helped strengthen the connection between all participants.

3D Modeling and Digital Twins

Monday focused on ArchiCAD training, where participants were introduced to the software, its basic tools, and how to work with them. The session showed everyone how to transform point cloud data into detailed 3D models. On Tuesday, the schedule included an introduction to digital twin concepts using a Raspberry Pi. Working in Visual Studio Code, participants tried out hands-on tasks, tested smart technology, and took practical steps toward building a working digital twin prototype.

Project Finalization and Closing

Wednesday morning was dedicated to final teamwork in class, allowing participants to complete their ongoing project tasks. In the afternoon, teams presented their final projects, summarizing their work and sharing key takeaways from the workshop experience. The event concluded with an official certificate handover ceremony, celebrating everyone's hard work, collaboration, and successful completion of the training program.
